PLEASE TELL A BIT ABOUT WHO AND WHERE?
I was born in 1978 in Sittard, The Netherlands and now live just across the boarder in Belgium with my husband and our three daughters named Hannah (11), Moos (11) and Linn (8) (and cat Teddy)
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME TED&TONE?
WHY DID YOU WANT TO START TED&TONE BESIDE HAVING YOUR FIRST-BORN BRAND ESTHEX?
Because I was longing for more creativity and I wanted to focus on drawing and designing patterns, something I wanted to do for a long time. As production takes place in Europe (for some items even The Netherlands) it means I can add new designs very quickly which is a lot of fun and it keeps my creativity unendless.
WHICH DAILY ACTIVITIES MAKE YOU REALLY HAPPY?
Walking next door to my new studio still makes me really happy, I have a huge window in front of my desk to look over a meadow full of sheep. It’s a lovely view in any kind of weather. Cycling my kids to school in the morning is something I love too.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD?
Playing with my dolls&friends, drawing and lots of daydreaming. Just put me in front of a window and I am happy. Still works even as an adult.
WHAT MOVES YOU, WHAT DO YOU THINK IS REALLY IMPORTANT?
Awareness of production and a conscious way of buying products that are made with love and much care from a small business. The Esthex items are made in Thailand and at a fair trade workplace. For Ted&Tone I work with printing and knitting companies in Europe and many items are made in The Netherlands or by hand by me.
WHAT IS YOUR DREAM?
This! Ted&Tone has been my dream for years, as one of my daughters put it into words, Ted&Tone is a shop&brand where you can find lot’s of nicely designed bits&pieces, for both tiny & tall!
WOULD YOU LIKE TO COLLABORATE AS DESIGNER & ILLUSTRATOR WITH OTHER BRANDS OR MAGAZINES?
Yes, I would LOVE to! I have a deep love for colours, drawing and patterns and as I am developing these fields more and more it also means it is time to explore new fields and think about possible collaborations. Patterns and illustrations can be used in a million ways so if you have an idea for a special purpose or occasion just shoot and send me an email, I would love to hear it.
